Standoffshelters, Wintering barns, Dairy Shelters by Redpath

Trusted for 30 years

Redpath Dairyshelters™ can increase farm production by allowing better management of pasture, stock and feed particularly in poor weather conditions. The covered feedpad concept is not new - however the Redpath Dairyshelter™ sometimes called Winteringshed or Standoffshelter is unique in that it uses a super heavy-duty Durashelter™ clear roof membrane. Our 30 years experience in the design of steel buildings with flexible cladding means that we can offer reliable, long-term performance structure at a cost-effective price built on site for around $320 per cow + GST.

The clear roofing harnesses the suns natural energy / UV and keeps the flooring within the Dairyshelter™ drier and with reduced bacteria and disease. It also allows the herd to stay warm and content within a dry naturally lit environment. Redpath are so confident in their ten year roof system – that we offer a warranty that states “If the roofing fails within the first 5 years of use , We’ll replace it for free!*”

Redpath Dairyshelters™ will often use a soft “deep litter” woodchip flooring system and this not only provides a comfortable floor for the cows to rest / loaf on but also acts like a "sponge" for soaking up & retaining effluent. The flooring crust is dried by the roof and the buildings ventilation system and it is then later removed from the building as friable fertiliser rich humus for spreading onto the farm or mixed into feed crop land when conditions are dry.

Redpath Dairyshelters are also often built over existing concrete feedpads – to eliminate rainfall falling onto the pad and washing effluent into the effluent pond system. The option to cover an existing feedpad will often cost less than what it might cost to upgrade to an effluent pond system plus the farmer will have the additional the benefits of having a shelter for the cows in poor conditions.

For summertime production Redpath Dairyshelters feature either an internal overhead shade system or fully automatic roof ventilation systems to cool the shelter.

Feeding indoors when weather is poor can allow farmers to save up to 33% in feed and supplements. Reduced pugging and compaction of paddocks/grass can also dramatically lift farm efficiency whilst also reducing the amount silt and effluent that can drain into the waterways during winter.
